| Indoor or Outdoor Braais? |

In a country like South Africa the weather can really put a damper on things, literally. Summer is the time of year when most people love to have outdoor braais. The problem is that the weather can sometimes ruin all these plans with a massive summer storm. So the question is whether you want to plan indoor or outdoor braais in summer. It is possible to have an indoor braai, it will just have to be a little different to the traditional idea of the men gathered around a fire with drinks in hand and the women gossiping and snacking on chips and salad and rolls in the kitchen. You will need to have a fireplace with a good chimney to have an indoor braai. Pizza ovens will also work quite well for this. Then you need to make sure that you have a grate to put the meat on and long enough tongs to keep your fingers safe. It will look pretty comical, true, but it could work. Of course, it is much easier to do outdoor braais. The question is how to keep the weather at bay. The solution is pretty simple. A cover patio. If you can position your braai near the edge of the patio with the fire under the roof and the smoke going outside into the rain then you are sorted. You can continue as normal with your outdoor braai and the women can have the kitchen to themselves. It might be a little nippy as a summer storm in South Africa can really cool things down, but that is what brandy and coke is for, right? If you plan your patio intelligently and put a roof over it, you will be able to have outdoor braais in the most inclement weather that South African summers and winters can throw at you. So keep those trusty braai tongs handy and get a roof on your patio so that the weather will not be able to spoil your weekend plans for a braai with your friends. Good luck and enjoy braaing the summer away with your buddies. |

There’s nothing better than sharing a traditional barbecue with family
and friends. Meaty steaks, breasts of marinated chicken, spicy sausages
and delicious lamb chops … all sizzling over a glowing, charcoal fire.
Add to this a cold beer, a glass of wine or a fresh fruit juice and
you’re in heaven!
