Recipes for Braai Don'T Have to Be Boring or Traditional at All PDF Print E-mail
South Africans love to braai If someone is having a birthday, we braai If someone is getting married, we braai If it's Tuesday well yes, we braai While braaing will probably always remain a favourite amongst South African families, it is also important to experiment with different recipes for braai days, to insure that the boredom (especially with the ladies) doesn't set in

When browsing your cook book or perhaps the internet for recipes for braai events, you are probably thinking along the lines of an interesting marinating sauce or a different approach on a typical potato salad. But did you know that you can even bake a cake on the braai? I bet that all the ladies are now paying particular attention to this post Begin by making a fire as per usual and placing an empty pot (with lid on) on your braai grid. Then butter your normal cake tin and add your favourite cake mix to the tin. Simply place the cake tin onto a wire rack inside the pot (which should be nice and hot by now) and quickly replace the lid so that the heat doesn't escape.

An average cake should be ready to enjoy in 30 minutes - carefully lift the lid every 10 minutes to monitor the progress of your delicious cake. After 30 minutes you can test the cake by poking it with a sharp knife, exactly the same way you'd test a "typical in the oven" cake. If the knife does not come out clean, your cake will need a couple more minutes. At this stage it is important to keep the pot's lid on, but to remove the pot from the fire. Check the cake every couple of minutes - once the knife comes out clean your "braai cake" is ready to be served with icing, caramel or a nice custard dressing

Perform a search for "recipes for braai" by typing the keywords into your favourite online search engine. Braaing does not have to be limited to "chops" and "wors" Bake a bread (or a cake), grill a "mielie" or a butternut - do not be afraid to experiment
