For those who grew up in a family in which having a barbecue was part of the family tradition would more than likely know how to make a barbecue and how to cook whatever is on the barbecue to perfection. To the inexperienced person, cooking some meat on a barbecue may seem like a very easy task. It may seem as if all one has to do is make a fire and then put some meat on the grill. Wrong

Barbecuing is an art Much like other forms of cooking. Any chef or experienced barbecue expert will let you know that there is great technique which goes into getting the perfect barbecue going.

Tip no 1: Season your meat

There are so many different types of barbecue sauces and rubs on the market, and choosing one is really a matter of preference. If you like your meat tender and a bit sticky then I would suggest you opt for a barbecue basting sauce. Season your meat well in advance by rubbing the seasoning into the meat, a kind of meat massage if you like. Place the meat in the fridge until it is ready to go onto the barbecue.

Tip no 2: Prepare the fire

Depending on what type of barbecue you have you would either use charcoal or gas. Seen as most people still use charcoal this tip is for them. Once your wood or charcoal has been burning allow it to burn until the coals are really hot but you must not see any flames. If the meat is placed on the grill when the coals are too hot the meat will burn and yet still be raw on the inside.

Tip no 3: Grill placement

If you don't have one of those barbecues which have a built in grill, then you need to buy a proper grill. I prefer a grill which allows you to place the meat between the two pieces netting. These types of grills allow you to turn the meat over without letting any meat fall of the grill. Do not place the grill directly on the coals.
